2023년 9월 21일부터 11월 19일까지 서울시립미술관, 서울역사박물관, SeMA 벙커, 스페이스mm, 소공 스페이스, 서울로미디어캔버스에서 개최된 《이것 역시 지도》는 디아스포라, 이주, 언어와 경계처럼 우리가 잘 안다고 생각하는 기존의 개념을 다시 보고 새롭게 읽는 ‘지도 그리기’에서 출발했다. 비엔날레에 초대된 여러 작품들는 오늘날의 물리적이고 문화적인 이주로부터 생겨난 사회적 경계와 다양한 미디어 환경으로 야기되는 복합적인 연대의 풍경을 다양한 층위에서 살펴본다. 서울의 지상과 지하 전시장 6곳에서 펼쳐지는 비엔날레 지도는 지리적인 영토 밖에서 형성되는 역동성과 네트워크를 드러내며, 초국가적인 결속, 보이지 않는 헌신, 코드화된 데이터와 같은 예술적이고 정치적인 소통을 통한 ‘글로벌 미학’을 제시했다.

Entitled THIS TOO, IS A MAP, the 12th Seoul Mediacity Biennale (SMB12) opened to the public at Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul Museum of History, SeMA Bunker, space mm, Sogon Space, and Seoullo Media Canvas from 21 September to 19 November 2023. Developed to imagine the global aesthetics of the non-territorial, THIS TOO, IS A MAP focuses on alternative concepts of mediating and relating that live outside of borders and looks to the necessity of abstractions and hidden and deliberately obscured languages to communicate shared existence. The project refers to the global relations that take place within Seoul and its industrial surroundings, and the positions and references of those willingly and unwillingly displaced, often multiple times over, whether within or outside of the city and state. The Biennale looks at systems imposed or created outside of national borders, including transnational solidarities, “underground” commitments, the coded mapping of data and infrastructure, as well as those of artistic and political communication.
