국제심포지엄 〈백남준, 메가트론, 그리고 서울 랩소디〉은 2002년 서울시립미술관 서소문본관 개관을 기념하며 제작된 백남준의 〈서울 랩소디〉에 포함된 ‘메가트론’이 지닌 미학적·역사적 가치와 의미를 다각도로 조명하는 학술 행사로 개최되었다. 아울러 작품의 중장기적 보존과 복원, 향후 서소문본관 리모델링과 연계된 전시 재배치 방안을 논의하는 자리로 기획되었다. 이번 학술 행사는 다양한 분야의 전문가들이 모여 백남준의 미완의 프로젝트를 함께 상상하고 연구하며, 새로운 해석과 실천적 논의를 확장하는 계기를 마련했다.

The international symposium Nam June Paik, Megatron, and Seoul Rhapsody was held as an academic event that examined from multiple perspectives the artistic and historical significance of Megatron, a component of Nam June Paik’s Seoul Rhapsody, created to commemorate the 2002 opening of the Seoul Museum of Art’s Seosomun Main Hall. It was further designed as a platform to discuss the long-term preservation and restoration of the work and to consider future strategies for its reinstallation in connection with the Seosomun Main Hall’s planned remodeling. This symposium brought together experts from diverse fields to collectively reimagine and investigate Paik’s unfinished project, fostering expanded interpretations and practical discourses.
